Let’s start to wake up every morning with our ambitions at the forefront of our minds. That’s right, it may be 5 a.m. PST, but let’s wake up and manifest that we’re going to have a kick-ass day. (Excuse my french). Far too often I feel as though many of us, wake up in the morning, and either wake up in a bad mental space, or we begin to think about all of the tasks we have to complete that day, and it drowns us. From there we tend to determine how our day is going to go before it has even begun. You may tell yourself in the morning, oh crap I have to do this that, and the other, or oh crap I just want to stay in bed today. We all have those days, trust, and that’s okay but what if we shifted gears a little bit to help make getting up in the mornings easy, and if we started with a little bit of self-care.
Sometimes you have to be a little bit selfish and put yourself first, especially in the morning. I know it may be hard, I am not a morning person, but for the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to practice what I preach. Instead of reaching for my phone the second I wake up, to start scrolling through my missed messages, Instagram, etc… I take the time for myself.
I’ll wake up in the morning, head to the gym, shower, make breakfast, take out my dogs, and then I’ll let social media and text messages from the night before clutter my brain and spaces. But, the important thing to note, when it comes to any new routine, don’t be hard on yourself when you fall off. In the beginning, when I didn’t wake up for the gym or didn’t practice what I preached, I was really hard on myself. I began to like almost resent myself for not trying hard enough. But I know that’s unhealthy, so now I just tell myself to keep going, to keep trying to follow my routine, and to not think it’s the end of the world if I don’t wake up at 4:30 a.m. to get ready for the gym.
I have found that staying positive, and putting myself first in the mornings is a great reset. I am now able to go through my day with a clear head because I’ve had time to truly wake up on my terms and take care of my mind and body. Prepare for those afternoon crashes though because once it hits noon, I am usually ready for a nap. However, that’s the middle of my workday, so no nap for me, that’s why it’s important to not only take care of yourself in the morning by having a good breakfast but also prepare a good lunch to energize your body throughout the day.
Give it a shot and comment below how it goes, I’d love to hear about your morning routines, what works and what doesn’t work for you! Now, go forth you beautiful human.
