I was watching TikTok the other night, because I’m addicted to that platform. I don’t know why, but during COVID, I downloaded the app and can’t seem to get off of it. Nevertheless, I was scrolling through TikTok when I heard this quote, “Working can’t be it for me. I know this is not what I am meant for, this is not my purpose.” This statement really stuck with me for multiple reasons… When it comes to working, we often experience so many different emotions. Our jobs have the power to impact our mental state on a daily basis. Whether you are burnt out, hate your job, love your job, have a love/ hate relationship with your job, don’t get along with a colleague, etc… The list goes on and on, but our professions have the power to make or break us. So this TikTok(er), I believe is absolutely right, in some ways.
When you go to work in the morning, how do you feel? Do you feel like you’ve found your life purpose? Are you truly happy? If the answer is no, than what’s stopping you from going out and finding what makes you happy? Sadly, we can’t live life how I believe God intended, which is that we are all able to come and go as we please and live life to fullest, without manmade currency.
But that’s not the world we live in, so we have to make the most out of our situation. I often talk about how I left my full-time job in 2020, because of the mental and physical impacts it had on me. What I thought was my dream job, actually in reality began to dull my sparkle, and I knew when it was time to leave. This TikTok(er)’s statement resonated with me because although most of us don’t have the freedom to say, we aren’t going to work for the rest of our lives, we do have the freedom to not settle, and to chase after our dreams.
In 2020, I not only left my job, but I started my own company called THEHIVECOLLAB. I’ve always considered myself to be a creative, so starting my own creative agency with my mom, seemed like the perfect fit. My overall mental and physical health greatly improved as for I was finally choosing to put myself first. Sometimes you have to take a chance and rock the boat, to find happiness. It’s easy said than done, because we tend to find comfort in familiar. But I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone, and chase happiness.
Life doesn’t have to be all about working, but many of us do find ourselves having to do it on a daily basis. So find something you enjoy, find something fun and I promise you that it will never feel like work. There will be days that you want to sleep in and stay home, but if you find something you love, it makes life easier. You are not meant to work for the rest of your life, you are meant to find something you love and to keep going until your dreams and aspirations manifest themselves.
