When is the last time you did not doubt yourself and your capabilities? When is the last time you looked in the mirror and were truly amazed and proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments and endeavors? Now, be honest. Don’t just say something to make yourself feel better in this moment, when were you last truly happy and content with your life? Can’t remember? Or has it been sometime? Well, what’s stopping you from taking your life back and standing out of your own way to do so?

I’ll stop asking you questions now, lets get down to business. On a daily basis, we will never encounter someone more critical of ourselves than ourselves. You are absolutely your worst critic, and sometimes your worst enemy. There is not another human in this world that should have power over you, and if someone does come to mind they shouldn’t be in your life. Unless your under the age of 18 of course, you may want to listen to your parents, it’s a lot easier. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. But cut that out, you are the only one standing in your way, so stop.

I myself am a perfectionist, if you can relate, than you know how mentally draining this is, nothing is ever good enough. I have destroyed my own paintings, talked myself out of applying for jobs, refused to go out with my friends on certain nights, because I wasn’t happy with my appearance; the list goes on.. all because I thought I was not good enough. But I want to tell you right now, to strive for excellence never perfection. If you strive for perfection you will never be satisfied, because perfection does not exist.

Once you change your mindset, you will soon realize that you can accomplish anything you set your mind too. Will the journey be hard, maybe? Will it take sweat, blood, and tears to get there, maybe? (Hopefully not blood). The moral of the story is that you are your worst critic, and we have to be kinder to ourselves in order to achieve greatness. We also have to recognize our accomplishments, because the road to self-love and admiration is bumpy; but at the end you’ll find an endless road of opportunity.

I challenge you to start small. When you wake up in the morning, look into the mirror and say five things you love about yourself. If you have even one negative thought, start over. Next, I want you to say at least three things you hope to accomplish during your day. Even if that is I want to make my bed today! Lastly, I want you to say out loud two goals you want to achieve in the future. Do you want to pay off all of your student loans by next year? Get a new car? You name it, just say it. Now, go through out your day with those affirmations and maintain your goal mindset. I hope this will help you visualize a better tomorrow, and hopefully see how amazing you truly are.

  1. The nature of our thoughts (positive or negative) affects everything from our subconscious, self image and even ability to perform. I think we need to start by appreciating the power of our inner voice to begin to properly address it. Great read!
